The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show is the world’s largest electronic media show and is a chance for our team to travel to Las Vegas to speak directly to the broadcast audio community. In this edition of “Where It’s A-T,” we’ll take a look at what we saw, what we did and what we learned at NAB 2014.

The Booth

A tour of our #NABshow booth. Did you stop by?

At our booth we brought headphones, microphones, wireless systems and more from our Ohio headquarters to give audio engineers a chance to get their hands on A-T gear and speak to our team about application and installation.

Mic Presentations

We invited a handful of audio experts to speak to attendees on a variety of broadcast-related topics:
    • Fred Ginsberg, a veteran sound mixer in film and television looked at the applications for different microphone types and at multitrack location dialogue recording.
    • A-T’s own Steve Savanyu gave a presentation on microphone techniques for Digital SLR cameras.
    • Robert C. Bigelow, an innovative sound recordist and mixer for TV and film, spoke about mid-side stereo miking and recording live music for broadcast
Below, you’ll see Fred Ginsberg delivering his lecture on advanced mixing for multitrack dialogue recording.

Ask Me Anything

First seen at last year’s AES Convention, our “Ask Me Anything” sessions returned, giving NAB attendees the opportunity to pick the brains of industry innovators. We also gave fans at home a chance to follow along and ask questions through Twitter and Livestream.

Here’s a list of the pros who participated in the NAB “Ask Me Anything” sessions:
  • Robert C. Bigelow
  • Larry Estrin, producer, engineer and audio technology innovator who has worked on broadcasts of the Olympics, the Super Bowl and more
  • Lenise Bent, producer and engineer who has worked with many top bands, including Fleetwood Mac and Steely Dan
  • Maureen Droney, engineer for such bands as Tower of Power and Santana
  • Michael Abbott, audio coordinator for the Grammy Awards Show broadcast
We had a lot of fun in Las Vegas for NAB 2014. If you were there, we hope you did, too. And if you couldn’t make it, we hope you learned something from our Livestream. Stay tuned to our blog for more detailed coverage of our NAB “Ask Me Anything” interviews!
