Can you tell us a little bit about how Music Travel Love got its start and how you both came up with the idea to take your music on the road to such scenic spots?

Long story short, we were driving around Nashville and had just finished a brand new EP that we were getting ready to shop around at record labels and we both looked at each other and said, is this what we want to be doing for the next year, convince label executives to like us? We’d been doing that for the previous 8 years, so we decided to ask ourselves a fundamental question. What do we want to be doing for the next 10 years? And our answer was, continue to make music, travel, and spend more time with our families, and Music Travel Love was born. It’s been a way for us to bypass the gatekeepers and go straight to our fans.

What has been your favorite location to record in so far and why?

So far Lake Powell because it was one of the first ones and it was a bit of a find. We really had to hike a way to get there and once we did it just felt perfect for the song “Stand by Me.”

You record a combination of covers and original songs. How do you choose the songs you cover?

We definitely choose songs that have inspired us. Something we grew up on. Sometimes we don’t like to listen to the original before we arrange our version. We just use our memory of how we remembered it to lead the way. Often times we’ll find that we’ve made the song faster or slowed it down. Because of that it becomes a reflection of how that song has influenced us and lives in our souls.

What is the biggest challenge you face when recording outside?

The weather for sure and you never know if you’re going to have enough time to get what you need. We do a lot in post-production as well so that helps for sure. Recording in Pro Tools allows us to capture what we need and fix things later if we need to.

What A-T equipment do you bring on the road and what about these products keeps them in your recording arsenal?

Here’s our specs:
  • AE6100: They are a really durable mic, and they sound great.
  • ATH-M50: These headphones are the best out there. They block out a ton of sound and the tone is really balanced. They just sound great.
