Wireless microphones are excellent tools for public speaking; handheld, clip-on and head-worn microphones all have benefits depending on the venue. Unfortunately, one of the more useful mic features – the mute switch – has always added complexity to wireless systems, especially if the audio system does not have an active sound operator at the mixer. When using a clip-on or head-worn microphone the mute switch is located on the body-pack transmitter that is usually worn near the user’s waist. This switch can pose a problem if the user has the transmitter covered with clothing or vestments. What is more, the visual indication of the mute status is often not easy to see regardless of whether the transmitter is covered or not. System 10Given this, we’d like to point out that the Audio-Technica System 10 Stompbox needn’t be used just by guitar players – presenters can find it useful as well. The Stompbox’s mute switch is designed to be stepped on regardless of the application and the unit provides easy-to-see visual feedback of the mic’s mute status. Consequently, the lecturer can find a more comfortable location for the body-pack and not worry about reaching to trigger the mute. And because the mute switch enclosure is the microphone’s wireless receiver, the antennas are now within close proximity of where the transmitter is being used. This reduces the amount of distance between the receiver and the transmitter, improving the ratio of signal to noise of the RF transmission. The System 10 wireless platform has many advantages, including working in a worldwide frequency band, automatic channel selection and 24-bit/48 kHz uncompressed digital audio. The Stompbox receiver can output a balanced audio signal and features an easy-to-read display of the transmitter’s battery level. In short, the System 10 Stompbox provides dependable, high-fidelity wireless that’s incredibly convenient to use. Even for presenters.
