How do I set up my Mac for use with the ATR3350iS microphone?
Using ATR3350iS mic on Mac Answer: Last week we discussed how to configure your PC to work with the ATR3350iS microphone. This week we’ll show you how to set up your Mac so you can use the ATR3350iS with recording programs you have installed on your computer. If you read our first post on this topic, which discussed how to connect the ATR3350iS to your computer, you’ll recall that we mentioned the ATR2USB adapter, an external sound card dongle that lets you connect your microphone to the computer’s USB input. You will need the ATR2USB (sold separately) or some other external sound card to connect the ATR3350iS to your Mac. You may also use the external sound card setup with your PC if you do not want to use your computer’s internal sound card or have a non-CTIA communications port. Note: While some of the pictures used in the following instructions may not match exactly what you see on your computer, they should be similar enough to guide you through the process.
  1. Plug the ATR3350iS 3.5mm TRS cable into the microphone input (pink) on the ATR2USB. Plug the ATR2USB adapter into your computer’s USB port.
  1. Access your System Preferences by clicking on the gear icon in the Dock.    Step 2
3. The System Preferences window will  open and look similar to this picture.    Click on Sound. Step 3 4. The Sound Window will open and look  similar to this picture.   Click on the Input tab.   Click on “USB Advanced Audio Device,” which is the ATR2USB external sound card. Step 4 5. Speak into your microphone and you will see the Input Level meters move.   Depending on the version of your Mac operating system, you may also be able to adjust the Input Volume as needed. Step 5 6. Click on the Output tab.  For the output device, you may use either your  Internal Speakers or the headphone connection on the ATR2USB by selecting your desired choice. *Note:  You will not hear the signal from the microphone  in “real time” due to the Mac computer’s configurations. You may be able to change this in your recording program  depending on the program you use. Step 6 You are now set up to use the microphone with the recording programs on your computer. You may need to set your desired input device (ATR2USB) and your desired output device (Internal Speakers or ATR2USB) within the recording software you use. Programs vary, so contact the software manufacturer to inquire further about the specific settings for their software.
