We’re honored to present a new guest blog series from recording engineer David Hewitt.David Hewitt A legendary name in the industry, David has recorded and engineered an incredible array of talented artists in both live and studio settings across the world. In this new series he’ll be sharing stories from his illustrious career. To kick off this series we’re giving you a look at David’s life, detailing how he got his start in the music business. Originally from Montana, his family moved constantly with each new deployment for his father, an Air Force Pilot. The nomadic lifestyle of his military family gave David an affinity for the traveling life that would become an integral part of his future remote recording career. He got his start in the pro audio industry in 1970 at Regent Sound Studios in Philadelphia before moving to New York, where he would soon take over the remote division of the Record Plant. It was there that he built the famed “Black Truck,” the first truly modern mobile recording studio, with which he captured many incredible live performances for bands from Pink Floyd to Miles Davis to Frank Zappa.
